2. Tradition

In Chennai.

Dance Auditorium.

The whole auditorium was filled with people and the rush was too much to handle. Everyone was waiting for the most awaited performance. In Chennai, Tamil people are very fond of Bharatnatyam, their traditional dance. And the girl they were waiting for really didn't disappoint them.

A girl came in between the stage, the whole auditorium echoed with the sound of claps, whistles, and hooting.

She bent down in a traditional way to do vaddakam to everyone. The auditorium again echoed with her ghungroo's voice along with people's praise. Soon, the veena started to play in the background. She performed her performance elegantly, not missing a single expression or move. Her steps were going on rhythm.

(Vaddakam is hello or namaste.

Veena is a musical instrument.)

As soon as her performance got over, a huge round of applause for her again echoed, but this time the noise was too much. It was going out of the auditorium.

Well, you guessed it right-she is our Suchitra, Suchitra Iyer. Her petite figure was wrapped in a white and golden saree, with heavy jewellery. Her makeup was coming off a little due to sweat. And thank God that she didn't apply much makeup. Her hair was tied in a heavy bun with a braid down, with some gajras.

She thanked everyone and came backstage. An old man was there, his eyes were slightly moist. She ran to him and hugged tightly.

"You were just looking like your mother," he whispered, as the knot in his throat wasn't letting him speak properly. She also sobbed in his arms.

"Amma must be proud, right Appa?" she asked innocently, looking at her father's eyes. He nodded and placed a small kiss on her forehead.

"Don't cry. If she would be here, she'd be so happy to see her daughter following her steps," he said, caressing her hair.

"And you know, after her performance, the whole auditorium was filled with her name only. I was feeling so proud of her." Ramanathan Iyer, Suchitra's father, praised her and was telling the whole scenario which he saw during his daughter's performance.

Suchitra heard everything from the kitchen. She was making tea for everyone. She heard her Appa praising her in front of her brothers. And her brothers were also feeling proud. Her heart swelled with pride for making her brothers and father proud of her. Being in a family with no women is actually worse because no one was there to teach her if anything came to girly things. Suchitra has two elder brothers, Raghavendra and Aaditya Iyer.

She was done with making chai, so she poured it into three cups and started to walk towards the living room where her father and brothers were.

"Suchi, you really are a goddess. You're too perfect. You are good at cooking and even dancing. You never disappointed us," her elder brother, Raghavendra, said with a small warm smile.

They were talking but her father's phone rang. It was a call from the matchmaker.

"Hello? Yes, say Subramaniyam." Someone said something from behind the phone.

"Okay, I'm fine with it. I want a perfect in-law and husband for my Suchii." He hung up the call after hearing the other side.

"What happened, Appa?" Aaditya asked his father in a worried tone.

"Matchmaker said he tried to find a perfect groom for my Suchii but didn't find any. So he talked to another matchmaker, and he found a man and his mother. They are talking to them and will let us know," Ramanathan said.

"Does he have any picture of that guy?" Raghavendra asked.

"He said that the guy and his family will come personally to meet us. It is good. I also don't want any fake edited bio-data of any guy." Everyone nodded at him.

Suchitra's POV:

Actually, it is a tradition of our family that a girl's marriage will happen earlier than anyone else's. Until then, the man can't get married-even if she is younger. Well, I find this very old and pricky, but for Appa, I'm doing this.
